“Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.” ~William Shakespeare
Maybe we were meant to move, a destiny that was always meant to be. Perhaps it was our excited temper for adventure, or could it have been divine intervention in our comfortable lives in order to break us open to show us how much greater we could become. Either way a few years ago we decided that our family should take a giant leap and move across the ocean to the Big Island of Hawaii. We had no idea where on the Big Island we wanted to move, what kind of a house we wanted or what kind of preparation it would take. We only knew that we felt the Island was supposed to be our next destination.
What happens when Nancy plants the seeds of adventure in Raymond’s heart?
- Well he eventually buys her a ticket to Hawaii and says “I trust you! Find us a beautiful home I can retire to.”

After almost two weeks of looking, the window to find the perfect house was closing. Some of the homes had a beautiful kitchen, another would be in a great area, others had beautiful forests in the back yard. Some were adorned with large Ohia posts along the lanai. As wonderful as all these things were nothing felt right. Days before they flew home Nancy and Puck went to talk with “Yurts of Hawaii”. After an incredible connection and a three hour conversation they walked out with a building plan and a new “To Do” on their checklist, “Find land to build Yurts on”. Within days they found the most beautiful 3 Acre plot. Feeling led, and blessed they put in an offer and were able to start the ball rolling before flying back to Utah.
“It was an incredible feeling to be able to tell my dad that we found 3 Acres he would be able to develop, tend, and watch over when we moved to Hawaii.” -Puck
After arriving home and informing the kids of our new plan to build yurts on our very own 3 acres Adalia decided we needed to make a visual so we could decide where exactly we wanted construction to happen.

Lessons learned:
- Never get stuck in your original plan. God may have something so much cooler than you could have ever planned for.
- Know that even if it doesn’t happen in the time frame you want, it will happen.
- If you are standing on the edge of the waters of adventure, stop thinking and just jump in!
The plan was now in motion. We had bought three acres on the Big Island and things were in the works to get the process started in order to permit our yurt village we had in our minds eye. We only had to wait a couple years until construction was finished and we were ready to sell our home in Tooele, Utah….right?
I’m so excited for you guys. Dream big and go for it. Sending my love
